# Use our docs with AI tools (MCP)

Our documentation is available as an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, so AI assistants like Claude, Cursor, and VS Code extensions can search and read our docs directly. By doing this, you can avoid copy-pasting content into a chat window.

Once connected, you can ask your AI tool things like *"How can I create a new user in SameSystem?"* or *"Add C# code to add a new contract?"* and it will pull the answer straight from our current, published docs.

> **Note:** This connects your AI tool to our *documentation*, read-only. It does not let your AI tool make changes in Samesystem or call our API on your behalf.

### MCP server URL

```
https://docs.samesystem.dev/~gitbook/mcp
```

Don't open this link in your browser as it is not a webpage. Instead, paste it into the settings of an AI tool that supports MCP.

### Connect your AI tool

#### Claude (Desktop or Claude.ai)

1. Go to **Settings → Connectors** (or **Settings → Integrations**, depending on your version).
2. Choose **Add custom connector**.
3. Paste in the server URL above.
4. Save, then start a new conversation and ask a question about our product — Claude will pull from our docs automatically when relevant.

#### Cursor

1. Open **Cursor Settings → MCP**.
2. Click **Add new MCP server**.
3. Give it a name (e.g. `SameSystem Docs`) and paste in the server URL.
4. Save. Cursor will now be able to reference our docs while you're coding against our API.

#### VS Code (with an MCP-compatible extension)

1. Open your MCP configuration (varies by extension — check your extension's docs for the exact settings location).
2. Add a new server entry with the URL above and transport type `Streamable HTTP`.
3. Reload the extension if prompted.

#### Other MCP clients

Any tool that supports the Model Context Protocol over Streamable HTTP can connect using the URL above. Check your tool's documentation for where to add a custom MCP server.

### Good to know

* This server only has access to our published documentation. It does not have access to drafts or unpublished changes.
* It is read-only.
* If a page moves or changes, the AI tool sees the update the next time it queries and you do not have to re-sync.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.samesystem.dev/getting-started/use-our-docs-with-ai-tools-mcp.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
